The house located\u00a0at 10 Grimes\u00a0road, was appointed in 1976 “Mc Gooey House”. It should rather\u00a0have been\u00a0called “Coleman House”.<\/p>\n
In the years 1869 and 1870, the house is built\u00a0for\u00a0Mc Gooey James Coleman. He had acquired,\u00a0the year before,\u00a0the land adjacent to the house of his friend James McGooey. Coleman wanted to build his house in Aylmer, to be near his associates William McKay and Wright B.S. Lawlor and the courthouse where he practiced as a lawyer.<\/p>\n
The cottage\u00a0is in the\u00a0neo-Gothic style, it\u00a0was built\u00a0in\u00a0a special technique. This\u00a0technique originated in the Black Forest in West Germany,\u00a0it\u00a0is to stack\u00a0boards\u00a0flat, in this case\u00a0boards\u00a0of nearly 18 cm wide. The house has no frame or walls. The doors and windows were carved on the walls.<\/p>\n
James Coleman died suddenly in November 1869 at the age of 35. Subsequently, several owners have succeeded in the house. The most important being the governor of the Aylmer prison, Mark Haladane,\u00a0between 1881 and 1884.\u00a0He\u00a0will make major changes\u00a0to the\u00a0home. Stucco, which serves as siding, will be covered with clapboards and the west side\u00a0andthe door will be moved into the central\u00a0forward part.
